THAI NGUYEN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

OVERVIEW OF THE TRAINING

Thai Nguyen University of Technology has experienced for nearly 50 years of construction and development. The university was established on August 19th, 1965 according to Decision No. 164.CP of the Government Excutive Committee as a branch of Hanoi University of Technology and Science in Thai Nguyen, i.e., a steel industrial zone.

Thai Nguyen University of Technology takes the duty of education and training  with both Undergraduate and Post-Graduate programs.

Undergraduate program: Since 1965, the university has implemented the training for the first undergraduate class with only few majors, and then more programs were added with both middle and higher education levels. At present, the undergraduate program has 28 majors with more than 11.000 students (in which, 8622 full-time students, 429 combined-program students and 2079 part-time students).

Post-Graduate program: The university has provided Master program since 1998 and Doctoral program since 2006. At the moment, the Master program includes five different majors, while the Doctoral programs covers three majors.

Supply students with an in-depth knowledge about accounting regulations, accounting policies, applied information technology in accounting, tax declaration; analysis, synthesis, evaluation and preparation for necessary accounting reports. Understand and apply the principle rules in social and natural field of in order to analyze and suggest economical policies (Mathematic, Sociology and Economics laws)

Industrial Management program with 01 major (04 years): Students are able to have knowledge of scientific foundation of administrative decision, industrial production management, project management.

1.2. Training program

The university has checked and adjusted all training modules of different majors in order to meet the social needs. After 5 years implementing 150-credit regular training program, the university has completed checking and adjusting all 23 five-year regular training programs. In which, outcomes standard is established; the logic of program structure, knowledge, skills and specializations are particularly focused. Therefore, these programs have applied for K47 students upward.  After graduation, students would have their own political stand, good morality, knowledge and skills about career that could meet social needs.

From the 2014-2015 academic year, the curriculum of most of the basic and specialized modules  compiled, translated from English textbooks will replace the present lectures.

1.3. Training organization

Up to now, there are 12 units participating in the training program, including faculties, centers and departments pertaining to University with total lecturers of 416 members, in which:

-         8 Associate Professors

-         32 PhDs

-         282 MAs

-         94 engineers.

More than 93% of lecturers get TOEFL ITP 450 upward in which more than 40% get TOEFL ITP 500 upward.

Lecturers’ offices

Thai Nguyen University of Technology has used five 4–floor buildings with total area of 10.300 m2 for lecturers’ offices. All lecturers of faculties have their own room, in which 01 private office for each Associate Professor and PhD; sharing office for each two MAs (Total area is more than 20m2). After lecture time, lecturers will work, do research and help students in studying.

E-learning system – Teacher and Student interaction

By using E-learning system, the way to communication between teachers and students is much easier. Lecturers can easily update all lectures, exercises, answer keys, examinations, grading, etc. online. Students will be provided all of documents related to studying every day and every week. In addition, students can send exercises and questions to lecturers through system and get the answer faster. Almost all exercises of modules are taken from English books.

The university has implemented a credit-based training system since 2006 up to now and the 6 graduated classes are highly evaluated by society.

With the aim to develop the capacity and quality of student through self-working, self-studying, the training organization has implemented as below:

 - Class organization: There are no more than 80 students in a class and arrangement of maximum 2 continuous periods in each course per half-day; in each half-day  there are maximum 4 periods.

  - All of theoretical modules have component grade with the percentage regulated in the syllabus. Module evaluation result will be the average of component marks and final examination (There are 3 component marks in each credit including 02 tests and 01 homework).

-  Before taking internship, experimentation and graduation internship, students are required to read independently, self-study and learn at home on purpose, objectives, content, equipment and processes so that they can implement by themselves. Teachers’s roles are only to monitor, explain and evaluate the results.

-  For students to meet employers’ English requirement when they graduate, our university has prescribed different English standards for them, namely: Students who will graduate  in 2015 have to meet Toefl ITP 390, graduate in 2019 must meet Toefl ITP 430, and graduate in 2020 have to acquire ITP TOEFL 450 (standard under the foreign language project in 2020 by the Ministry of Education and Training). So, our university creates an assessment to classify K50 students by their English proficiency. We also organize a separate semester English, supporting them a part of the tuition, to ensure that K50 students will meet the English standard of the Ministry of Education & Training when they graduate.

-  Results of the whole learning courses are based on the academic performance and the discipline of students.

Decentralization of training management between the university and Faculties

The University has a decentralization of training management throughout the board of directors, department of training and faculties. This is:

- The board of directors instructs directly the department of training all tasks related to the training of the University.

- The main tasks of the department of training are:

+ Be responsible for admission of types of training.

+ Manage the training curriculum.

+ Establish the training plan.

+ Plan the examination, testing schedule and estimate modules.

+ Manage the transcript of all students.

+ Examine the learning outcomes.

- The main tasks of faculties are:

+ Construct the training curriculum and syllabi.

+ Assign teaching, manage and be responsible for teaching.

+ Organize examinations,  tests and grading.

+ Manage student’s grades in parallel with management system of department of training.

+ Consider student’s study grades in parallel with department of training.

+ Be responsible for receiving applications and requests and keep contacts with the department of training to answer students' questions about training issues.
