The Environmental Engineering Curriculum

I. General Objectives

Comprehensive training of human resources Environmental Engineering engineer, linked theory with practice, experimentation; specializes in the design of waste treatment systems. Curriculum also has interdisciplinary instruction for students, with the goal of preparing students to achieve success in a professional working environment and dynamic.

II. Specific objectives

1. Quality

a. Political quality

Help students understand and executive the guidelines, policies and laws of the Party and the State; full implementation of obligations and rights of citizens and workers.

b. Humanistic quality

- Students are honest, reliable and responsible in their work. They are always unity and harmony in work environment.

- Students are people who are dynamic, confident, dare to think, dare to do, dare to take responsibility and deal with risks

2. Knowledge

- Equipped with a solid foundation of basic science such as mathematic, chemistry, physic, philosophy...

- Provide core background about environmental engineering and other related fields

- Provide in-depth technical background about environmental engineering majors, students have the ability to identify and resolve technical problems creatively through the use of methods and techniques: analyze, evaluate, calculate, design and testing

- Have knowledge and understanding of social issues.

3. Skills

a. Self-study skills

With the base knowledge has been equipped students will have skills such as the self-study, self-explore and solve the existing problems.

b. Skills in using information technology

- Fluency in design software, the analytical models of environmental parameters such as ENVIMQ2K software, MODFLOW and MT3DMS software, Streeter – Phelps model.

- Fluency in the office application software

- Proficient in using internet, email.

c. Communication skills

- Ability to convince by logical arguments

- Ability to express technical design and presentation with graphics, models and multimedia materials.

- Presentation Skills.

d. Teamwork

Students will have the ability to establish effective working groups. They can act as Team leader or as a member of the group and they can develop effective team in a dynamic and modern work environment.

e. Foreign Language

Learners will have ability to read, translate technical documents in English; they are also having capable of basic communication in English. Equivalent level B.

III. Output standard of the program 

After completing the program, students will have the capacity:

1. Capability to technical arguments and solve problems

- Ability to express and explain environmental problems scientifically and logically

- Ability to recognize and resolve environmental issues in a systematic way: collect data, analyze, review, suggest, choose and implement solutions.

2. Ability to experimental research and knowledge discovery

Ability to design and implement experiments to verify the technical and technology issues in environmental treatment

3. Ability to systematically think

Ability to analyze and evaluate of environmental problems and waste treatment systems at the overall level, identify the problems that arise, sort and identify the core elements and have capable of choose appropriate solutions.

4. Personal qualities

Students are trained to develop about: creative thinking ability, capability in working arrangements; self-learning skills, skills in using information technology.

5. Quality of career

Learners are trained on honesty, duty and responsibility; professional manners.

They always have a sense of updated information about scientific and technical progress and planning work for future.

6. Skills in team working

Students will have the ability to establish effective working groups in which they can act as leader or participate as team members. They can develop an effective team in dynamic and modern working environment.

7. Communication Skills

- Ability to convince by logical arguments; ability to communicate in writing and the media

- Ability to express technical design or presentations with graphics, models and multimedia materials.

- Ability to read, translate technical documents in English; capable of basic communication in English. English proficiency equivalent to B.

- Presentation Skills

8. Have knowledge of social issues

- Understand the role and responsibilities of engineers to society; interaction of technology and society

- Understanding the law, history and culture

- Understand the meaning and be able to update the current issues.

9. Capable of forming ideas

- Ability to grasp and analyze and assess the practical issues such as: the need for treatment and improvement of the environment; the limitations of the current treatment system or advantages of the modern technologies.

- Outline the design ideas in each department or entire treatment system for each specific environmental status.

- Identify problems and come up with solutions for the design and operation of the system

10. The ability to design

- Ability to design modules or entire waste management system in accordance with the requirements expressed through capabilities such as surveying, calculation, simulation and testing, pilot experience; analyze and explain the problem in a scientific way.

- Ability to organize and report on environmental impact assessment as well as design environment monitoring program.

11. Ability to perform

- Ability to plan, organize and supervise the construction and installation of the environmental treatment system.

- Ability to plan and organize the implementation of environmental impact assessment.

- Ability to implement cleaner production assessment

12. Performance

- Capable of building and implementing operating procedures to achieve the highest efficiency.

- Ability to organize or participate in the training and transfer of technology.

IV. Work Opportunities

After graduation students can do the following:

1. Do the technical work or management in businesses in the areas of pollution control, environmental protection such as: Sub-department of environmental management, environmental technical centers, urban environment company, management boards of industrial zones, design consulting firm, the factories, the basic construction project...

2. Management, consulting and design for environmental protection projects at home and abroad.

3. Work at the agency related to the environmental field.

4. Participate in the teaching of specialized courses in Environmental Engineering at the University, colleges and vocational schools.

5. Perform scientific research and deploy of the research into practice in the field of pollution control, exploit and use of natural resources to serve the sustainable development at research institutes and centers of the ministries, universities...
